EASTERDAY POETRY AWARD WINNER 2014-2015
Glass cannot transcend back into sand no matter for how many
infinities it shatters. The mangled throats breathe through gaps
between teeth, sewn into gums with gossamer thread.
Argent poniards sing antediluvian gospel hymns of ebony husks-
ivory rib-cage birdbaths of scintilla faith.
This is your captain speaking:
here to create talismans out of martyrs-
the somber nectar from acacia ringlets christened by crimson ink,
dropping birds with bursting hearts.
Ya'aburnee! You bury me
under ethereal embers of pyrrhic faith. We
are open flesh wounds poised with gnarled
teeth, wistful epidermis of nebulae demise.
Aqualungs crumble like diaphanous avenues;
pressed flowers always have ashen blood.
Cypress veins tart like green apples, we only see
by lissome fingertips, reading braille in
